David Aplin Group, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with our client, a global engineering and environmental consulting firm to recruit a Senior Environmental Planner with expertise in MTO Class EAs, Transit EA processes, and Municipal Class EAs under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The incumbent will be joining a team that has proficiency in environmental and socio-economic impact assessments, planning, permitting, construction monitoring, stakeholder, and Indigenous engagement. This role is remote/flexible.

The Role: 

  • Direct the environmental planning for multi-disciplinary transportation and infrastructure projects, including environmental impact assessments and related studies
  • Work in collaboration with the team to provide environmental services, primarily in the areas of environmental and socio-economic impact assessments (e.g., EAs/EIAs/ESIAs), planning, permitting, construction monitoring, and stakeholder and Indigenous engagement.
  • Provide guidance in the preparation of regulatory roadmaps, environmental permit applications, environmental protection plans, and monitoring plans, and the implementation of environmental monitoring programs
  • Undertake quality reviews of project deliverables, including environmental assessments and technical documents that would support regulatory approvals 
  • Offer technical leadership to the team by providing strategic advice and utilizing project management skills to deliver high-quality products and services to clients
  • Consult with regulators and clients and oversee innovative programs that would engage Indigenous communities and project stakeholders
  • Contribute to the growth of the team by developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key clients, identifying new project opportunities, and supporting proposals for the team
  • Mentor junior and intermediate staff by identifying career goals and development opportunities 
  • Provide guidance in navigating EIA requirements, environmental permitting, and related authorization processes relevant to infrastructure projects in Ontario

The Ideal Candidate: 

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in planning, environmental studies, environmental science, or a related discipline
  • Must have at least 15 years of experience conducting and managing environmental impact assessments, with a focus on municipal and transportation projects
  • Experience with MTO RAQS qualifications & TPAP.
  • Existing client relationships with MTO, Metrolinx, and Ontario municipalities
  • Experience in the design and delivery of stakeholder and Indigenous engagement programs, including the use of innovative virtual engagement tools
  • Experience with business development and building client relationships
  • Membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Professional Planners (RPP and MCIP) or P. Eng
