If you are a talented and experienced Operations Manager, David Aplin Group has partnered with our client a leading logistics and distribution firm located in Cambridge, ON to recruit for their Distribution Centre. Reporting to the Director of Operations this role will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities at the Cambridge facility.
  • Manage the daily activities of the fulfillment center and be responsible for identifying and building/developing a team that monitors inventory integrity, minimizes loss, and manages expenses to maximize revenue
  • Establish, support, promote and participate in a network, facility, and departmental activities designed to strengthen and improve morale, and teamwork and improve the overall work environment
  • Ensure that goods are received, stocked, and dispatched on time, meeting customer satisfaction. Be responsible for evaluating freight services, negotiating contracts, and managing relationships with chosen vendors
  • Assesses inbound and outbound workflows to minimize cycle time and operating costs
  • Ensures products are received and stored daily according to established performance standards
  • Work with the Leadership Team to provide various training programs to enhance employee skills to acquire new knowledge and skill  
  • Identify high potential staff (internal and external) that will build a bench strength of the distribution center
  • Collaborates with leaders for all staffing functions and review the work of direct reports to assess job performance; coach and mentor employees to improve their performance; create performance improvement plans when necessary
  • Implement procedures, guidelines, and standards; identify process improvements to increase efficiency or reduce costs; oversee a process to audit files and records for compliance; plan and organize meetings or seminars; schedule or authorize training for employees; approve timecards, overtime, and time-off requests
  • Work closely with leadership to establish and achieve the facility goals from a cost and productivity standpoint
  • Establish and maintain relationships with both internal and external customers
  • Provide Fulfillment Centre support when needed (may include travel)
  • Create a positive work environment that promotes creativity, teamwork, and recognition
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in a related field and a minimum of five to ten years of experience in logistics, warehousing, and/or distribution capacity within a fast-paced environment
  • Must have solid people management and leadership skills
  • Advanced computer skills in Word, Excel, and MS Office, and an aptitude to learn new applications
  • Ability to write policies and procedures related to distribution activities, relevant GMP and Health, and Safety and provide training expertise
