The Director of Finance is responsible for managing the daily finance and accounting functions. This position will oversee the accounting staff and ensure they are performing all necessary daily activities to keep the financial reporting on time and will ensure that all necessary internal controls are in place to protect the company from risk. The Director of Finance will ensure adequate cash flow by managing all daily banking, collections, and payments. Detailed financial analysis and reporting will be managed and completed in a timely manner each month. This position will also manage all external reporting to government, banks, insurance, and any other necessary third parties. This is an important and valuable position within the organization and is imperative for the organization’s continued growth.

  • Cash flow management – ensure the funds are available for all necessary outflows
  • Banking and bank reconciliations – daily analysis of bank accounts to ensure all transaction are accurately recorded
  • Ensure all deposits are made accurately each day.  Maintain all wire transfers, banker’s acceptances, foreign exchange contracts.   Manage all bank security and restrictive covenants
  • Accounts receivable and credit management – ensure timely collection of all receivables.  Monitoring customer performance.  Managing customer credit processes
  • Accounts payable, matching, and payments – oversee the process and make sure all obligations are paid when they are due
  • General ledger – ensure timely and accurate accounting records and detailed analysis of all accounts
  • Monthly and annual accruals – ensure all receivables and obligations are accurately accrued to the correct accounting period
  • Monthly financial statement preparation and supporting documentation.  Reporting to management on the periodic performance of the company
  • Provide support to corporate budgeting process
  • Fixed asset management and reporting
  • Prepare year-end working papers
  • Annual financials and supporting documentation
  • Corporate tax planning and preparation
  • Work with auditors to complete annual review
  • Cost of goods analysis and cost accounting
  • Ensure the existence and accurate valuation of all inventories
  • Internal controls and internal auditing – ensure the safeguarding of all assets.  Detection and prevention of error and fraud  Ensure compliance with management policies.  Identifies insurable risks
  • Commissions and commission reporting review
  • Government, bank, insurance, etc. reporting preparation and relationship management
  • Administration of all corporate contracts
  • Business development program reconciliation, processing, and reporting
  • Supervise staff of four in accounting department
  • Become an internal expert in Global Shop Solutions software
  • Review and improve daily accounting processes and procedures, as necessary

  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of accounting and financial management are required.  A professional accounting designation is essential, and an additional university degree would be an asset
  • Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience in a similar role.   Highly experienced with the supervision and management of staff is required, along with well-developed communication and leadership skills
  • Experienced working in a modern ERP system (G.S.S. or Global Shop Solutions) in a manufacturing environment would be an asset.  Strong spreadsheet skills are necessary for this position, so solid skills around information technology are a must
  • This Director of Finance must have excellent technical skills, strong attention to detail, superior time management abilities, and must be accountable for their responsibilities, and the responsibilities of their team
  • Must have the ability to travel globally along with all necessary travel requirements/ documentation
